Visit Conroe

Ever wonder how the city of Conroe came to be?

In 1881, Issac Conroe traveled north from Houston to the then forested area and decided to build a sawmill. From there his business flourished bringing more families to area in search of a decent wage. This led to the first school in Conroe, the Conroe Mill School, to be built to educate the mill worker's children. In 1904, the city was officially incorporated and named after its founder, Issac Conroe.
